The Turkey Trot returns to the 4-H Fairgrounds this Fall! The Cape May County 4-H Horse Council will hold a Turkey Trot on Saturday, November 22, 2025. The event will take place at the Cape May County 4-H Fairgrounds, 355 Court House – South Dennis Road, Cape May Court House, New Jersey.

The Horseback Turkey Trot begins with registration at 10am, relay races at 11am followed by the Trot. Teams of three will be sent out in five-minute intervals. Walking group of riders will be sent out after the final team of trotters is sent out. The 4-H Turkey Trot is open to the public, however, shot records are required for non-4-H registered horses. Also, all riders are required to wear helmets.

Brooke Schaffer, Hy-Riders 4-H Club Leader and member of the 4-H Horse Council, said, “I participated in the last Turkey Trot held on the fairgrounds in 2016 and thought it was time to bring it back to the 4-H Fairgrounds for our riders and the public. It’s a fun obstacle course in the ring to start and then the groups head out on a little trail ride plus a pleasure walk option.”

Medals will be awarded to the top three finishing teams. Also, participation medals will go to the first 60 registered riders. The cost is $35 per entrant or $25 for any 4-H member, leader or volunteer.

The event is free for the public to come and watch. Ligh refreshments will be available for purchase and water will be provided for the horses.

Schaffer added, “We are excited to host such a fun activity for horseback riders! We hope everyone will come out and support this event.”
