Middlesex County 4-H Open House

Join us at the 4-H Open House. Learn about Middlesex County's 4-H program, join a club, meet members or become an adult volunteer. 

If you’ve ever wanted to learn more about Middlesex County’s 4-H program or join one of its many clubs, an exciting opportunity is coming up. The Middlesex County 4-H Open House is scheduled to be held Sunday, Oct. 4 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the 4-H Youth Center, located at 645 Cranbury Rd. in East Brunswick.

Attendees can learn about 4-H clubs, meet members and volunteer leaders, enjoy petting zoos and demonstrations or even join a 4-H club.

Though typically thought of as an agriculturally focused organization due to its history, 4-H today focuses on citizenship, healthy living, science, engineering and technology programs. 4-H clubs also get involved in service activities designed to improve the circumstances in their community. 

There are over 30 different 4-H Clubs within Middlesex County, open to students in kindergarten through Grade 13 (one year out of high school). New 4-H clubs were recently created covering such program areas as robotics, outdoor education, 3-D printing, hiking and genealogy. 

Joining a 4-H club offers a focus for the youth’s interest while building their skills. Once a club is joined and a family is in the 4-H network, participation requires interaction with members through public speaking and encourages attention to detail through record keeping on subject matter and accomplishments. 4-H members learn citizenship and leadership skills.
4-H emphasizes science education and the expressive arts through a learn-by-doing approach to teach responsibility, community awareness, and character development.

4-H volunteers are the backbone of the program. Volunteers receive training and support for which ever role they choose. 4-H volunteers are taught how to provide a safe environment for youth so they can experiment, and grow. Often these volunteers serve as club leaders.

Attendees of the Open House will have the chance to observe animal and dance demonstrations throughout the event. There will also be opportunities to speak with current 4-H members and volunteer leaders, so children can join the clubs that best reflect their interests, and adults can volunteer to help the groups best suited to their skills.

Families are an important part of the 4-H program. Parents, brothers, sisters and other members of the family can learn new skills and adopt new ideas by being a part of the 4-H program. 4-H is adaptable to each individual, each home and each community.
