Dr. Claudia Gil Arroyo is County Agent III (equivalent to Assistant Professor) and the department of Agriculture and Natural Resources and is stationed within the Rutgers Cooperative Extension office of Cape May County, where she leads education, outreach, and applied research supporting commercial agriculture and related industries across southern New Jersey. Her work focuses on agritourism, wineries and craft beverages, retail marketing, and marketing for agricultural and aquacultural producers.

Dr. Gil Arroyo earned her Ph.D. in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management from North Carolina State University, along with a certificate in Teaching, Training, and Educational Technology with a specialization in instructional design. Her doctoral research examined the contributions of craft beverage tourism to sustainable development and destination image formation. She also holds a master’s degree in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism from the University of Missouri and a bachelor’s degree in Tourism Management from Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola in Lima, Peru.

Born and raised in Peru, Dr. Gil Arroyo brings international experience from both the tourism industry and academia. She previously served as a professor in the Tourism Management program at her alma mater in Peru, where she developed strong interests in community-based tourism, experiential tourism, and food tourism. Drawing on this background, she works closely with New Jersey producers to help strengthen farm viability, connect agriculture with tourism, and support the long-term sustainability of the region’s agricultural economy.
